About the Language

A member of the Altay branch of the Ural-Altaic linguistic family which includes Finnish and Hungarian, Turkish is the westernmost of the Turkic languages spoken across Central Asia and is generally classified as a member of the South-West group which is also known as the Oguz group. The speakers of Turkish language are predominantly located in Turkey, Cyprus, Greece, Romania, Serbia, the Republic of Macedonia, and Bulgaria, Kosovo, Albania, Iraq and other eastern parts of Europe. Moreover, there are also Turkish-speaking minorities in France, UK, Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium and Germany. Turkish is highly mutual intelligible to other Oghuz languages like Azeri, Turkmen, Qashqai, Gagauz, and Balkan Gagauz Turkish.
